![]() About Us History | Policy | Who We Are | Parent Responsibilities Policy Enrolment Enrolment is open first to children whose parents are members of Zion Lutheran School . It is then open to children in the community who are not members of Zion but who desire a Christian education for their children. Parents must be willing to work co-operatively to help overcome problems that arise in their children's school life. All new registrants (except for Pre-K) are required to complete a skills assessment to help determine if Zion 's education program meets the child's learning requirements. In addition to submitting a registration application, parents who wish to enroll their students at Zion are required to meet with the principal and a School Board member to discuss with them the reasons and desires for wishing to enroll in Zion Lutheran School . Parents are presented with a handbook which outlines what our school stands for. It also contains a Code of Conduct. Space limitations and the ability of the school to meet the needs of a child may cause Zion Lutheran School to deny admissions to applicants. Kindergarten students must have reached their 5 th birthday by December 31 st of the current school year. Tuition Payments The first month's tuition payment is due on Registration Day, Thursday, September 1 st. At that time families will sign up for a pre-authorization payment for the 1 st of each month through June, 2006. The total yearly payment may be made on Registration Day. In such case, the payer will be entitled to a tuition discount. The amount of the discount is based on the interest rate for a 30 day term deposit offered by the school's bank as of August 1 st. A cheque made out to Zion Lutheran School Parent/Teacher League dated June 15, 2006 is also taken at Registration Day. We ask each school family to give 12 hours of volunteer time (2 hours to help with the school carnival). Upon completion of the 12 hours of volunteer time, this cheque is returned to you. There is a broad list of jobs to choose from, including some that can be done at home. Class Size Pre-Kindergarten classes are limited to 15. Discipline It is expected that all families and students sign and agree to the Code of Conduct as outlined in the School Handbook. Should a problem arise, it is expected that the parent and teacher first discuss the issue. Should the problem not be resolved, the principal will get involved. A discipline appeals procedure is also outlines in the School Handbook. Privacy Act Zion Lutheran School has a detailed privacy act. A copy of this act is available at the school office upon request. Information on a child or a family is only used as outlined in the Privacy Act (those that the government requires, and for the normal running of a school). Any other information on a child is not shared unless written permission is granted by a parent. Dress Code Zion Lutheran School does not have a school uniform. A detailed dress code is outlined in the school handbook. Clean, tidy and proper fitting clothes are expected. Any form of attire that has rude or racially offense sayings or slogans is banned. Clothing must cover all "under garments". "Bare midriffs" are not allowed. Attendance Regular and punctual attendance is required of all students at all grade levels. If a child is absent or tardy, the parent is to call the office by 9:00 am so that the school is aware of the child's whereabouts. In addition to the phone calls, as required by the Independent School Branch of the BC Ministry of Education, all absences must be explained in a written note of explanation by a parent or guardian. This note is to be given to the classroom teacher upon the child's return to school. |
