History

Over 70 years ago, Zion started with seven families worshipping in a member's home. The name 'Zion Lutheran Church', was adopted on January 28th, 1934 and the vision was to create a caring Christian community that would serve God faithfully.

Some 25 years later, Pastor Les Gierach met with a small group of parents to discuss an item of great concern: who would teach their children and what would they be taught? To those parents and to us today it is an issue of great significance. Their goal was to provide an excellent academic environment where God's love could also be taught and experienced on a daily basis. This vision has continued to provide numerous opportunities for children and their families to grow in faith and service to our church and community.

From these humble beginnings, Zion has become one of the largest and most vibrant congregations in the Alberta-British Columbia District of Lutheran Church Canada.

We have developed a strong desire to share the Gospel of salvation with our neighbours and friends, through a wide variety of ministry areas, including our Christian school. As God continues to move us forward, major upgrades have been completed to expand our facilities.

Over the past two years, over 2,168.8 square meters of new space has been added, which include a chapel, offices, narthex, kitchen, library a new gym, and 17 multi purpose classrooms.
